2009 Test Of Proficiency-Huayu(Mandarin) in Southern California

TOP Registration Form
The Test Of Proficiency-Huayu (Chinese) is sponsored by the Taiwan Ministry of Education and developed by the National Taiwan Normal University, and the Steering Committee for the Test Of Proficiency-Huayu (SC-TOP). The TOP, designed for non-native speakers of Chinese, is held one time each year.

The purpose of TOP is to measure the Chinese proficiency of non-native Chinese speakers. No specialized knowledge or vocabulary is required. Currently, the test evaluates listening, reading skills and vocabulary/grammer and is offered in a paper-based format. Separate tests are designed for four different levels of language proficiency – For Beginner, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. Eligible test takers will be given a certificate of rank 1-7 in accordance with scores.

What is TOP used for?
Eligible test takers will be given a certificate indicating the respective level and rank of the examinee.
The certificate can be used as an official document when applying to academic programs at colleges, universities, and graduate institutes in Taiwan. Moreover, test results can serve as a measure of Chinese proficiency for language level placement at language centers throughout Taiwan. In addition, the certificate can be used as proof of Chinese language ability in job applications.

The 2009 Test Of Proficiency-Huayu For Beginner, Basic Level, Intermediate Level and Advanced Level will be held at Pasadena City College in Los Angeles on March 28, 2009 at 2:00-4:00 pm. The Application Dateline is March 15.
